Wedding Dress Shopping - Think About Your Body Type

By Jone King

Choosing your wedding dress is most likely going to be one of your key moments as a bride to be. It has to be perfect in every way, yet the search to track down 'the one' can occasionally prove more difficult than you envisaged. The bridal gown you fell in love with when leafing through the wedding magazines which you were so certain was going to give you butterflies in your tummy and tears when you tried it on, may not work for you, no matter how amazing it looked on the model.

If you want to get it over with quick and, of course, free, your best bet is to talk to mom -- be it yours or your husbands. It's quite likely that one of them has a great wedding gown which you might be able to wear. Talk to one of them about it and Prom Dresses Sale see how she feels letting you wear the gown. Throw in some flattering words -- could I have the honor, would you allow me, can I have the privilege, etc. -- and theres little chance you'll be turned down.

Pear Shaped is the most common body shape. If your hips are wider than your shoulders and your waist is shapely, then we suggest you opt for a fairly full A line shape skirt to hide your hips with a strapless fitted bodice to show off your upper half. Diagonal ruching and draping on the bodice accentuates your waist. Empire lines are also a great option. Bias, mermaid and straight cut dresses will draw too much attention on your hips as will gathered and pleated skirts.

Column: This body shape is usually straight up and down, with no or a slightly defined waist. The lower and upper body are more or less the same width and is a common shape amongst models. You can be a tall or a short column, but this body type is usually a slightly boyish or athletic figure. If you have the column shape, steer clear of any empire line dresses that will only make you look very straight up and down. Rather opt for elaborate ball gown wedding dresses that look stunning with this body shape.

Hour glass figures: This body shape is characterized by a small waist with bust and hips of the same width that give that classic hour glass shape. Think Marilyn Monroe. You can be a petite slim hourglass or a voluptuous hourglass, however the small waist and defined curves is a main characteristic of this body type. If you have an hourglass figure, then a wedding dress that accentuates your waist and showcases your curves is a preferred choice. Choose a wedding dress with a corset to draw attention to your tiny waist and you can pull off ball gowns with cinched in waists and full skirts as well as the mermaid shaped dresses.
